A hand-painted form of Murugan — Kartikeya, Skanda, the god of war, wisdom, and victory — rendered in traditional colors for those seeking devotional warmth and expressive detail. This version brings the murti to life through richly layered pigment applied individually by hand, drawing out the full presence of the vel, the peacock, and the figure’s commanding but composed stance.
Form & Posture
The figure stands upright, weight evenly distributed, the vel held vertically alongside the body — neither raised in attack nor lowered in rest, but poised. The torso is straight, the shoulders open; one hand grips the vel firmly while the other rests near the waist. The head is held level, the expression composed and resolved. Hand-painting draws out the full presence of the form: warm complexion, defined features, careful attention to the crown and ornamentation, and the peacock at the figure’s side integrated into the composition rather than placed alongside it as an accessory.
Ornament & Detail
Each piece is painted individually by hand and carries its own character. Traditional color is applied with care — warm golden tones across the crown, layered jewelry at neck and arms, and the waistband; the vel rendered in contrasting tones that lift it cleanly from the surrounding figure; the peacock’s feathers given careful attention, the eye-spots picked out in layered tones. The base is offered in three finishes — Black, Brown, and Gray — each lending a different register to the whole piece: dramatic, warm, or restrained. Variations in painting are part of the piece’s character; no two finish identically.
Murugan & the Vel
The vel is essential to the iconography — symbol of divine power, piercing clarity, and the triumph of knowledge over ignorance. It is held vertically, an axis through the composition that lifts the eye from base to crown. The peacock at his side, his vahana, represents the disciplining of pride and ego — beauty and capability brought into service rather than display. Together the vel and the peacock define Murugan’s character: clarity that pierces, beauty that submits, strength held in alignment with wisdom rather than in opposition to it.
In the Home
This Murugan murti is at home on a puja shelf, console, home mandir, or entryway — particularly suited to spaces where focus, discipline, and clarity of purpose are invoked. It works well in an office, a study, a meditation corner, or near the threshold of a home as a protective and orienting presence. The hand-painted finish makes it particularly suited to gift-giving — for Thaipusam, Skanda Sashti, and occasions where a richly finished sacred object is appropriate.
A companion form is available in the Ekadanta Ganesha murti — Murugan’s brother and a fitting pairing for those drawn to the wider Shiva–Parvati family of forms.
Also available as a sculptural form in sandstone body with five base finish options for a more restrained, contemporary presentation.
About Murugan
Murugan — also known as Kartikeya, Skanda, and Subramanya — is the god of war, wisdom, and victory, especially revered across South Indian traditions where he is honored as a principal deity. He is the son of Shiva and Parvati, and brother to Ganesha. He is invoked for courage, focus, success in challenges, and clarity in the face of difficulty. He is honored particularly during Thaipusam, Skanda Sashti, and the Tamil month of Aippasi. His presence speaks to strength held in service of wisdom — purpose without restlessness.

Minor layer lines and small surface variations are a natural part of the 3D printing and hand-finishing process and contribute to the character of each piece. Color and finish details will vary by piece as a natural quality of hand painting. This murti is not intended for immersion in water, milk, or other liquids.
