A sculptural form of Murugan — also known as Kartikeya and Skanda, the god of war, wisdom, and victory — designed for home mandirs, entryways, and contemporary domestic spaces. This Murugan murti presents the deity in his classical standing form, vel held in hand and the peacock at his side. It is a piece that holds a quiet authority — strength and discipline interpreted through clean line and balanced proportion rather than theatrical display.
Form & Posture
The figure stands upright, weight evenly distributed, the vel held vertically alongside the body — neither raised in attack nor lowered in rest, but poised. The torso is straight, the shoulders open; one hand grips the vel firmly while the other rests near the waist. The head is held level, the expression composed and resolved. The peacock rises beside the figure, integrated into the composition rather than placed alongside it as an accessory. The overall silhouette reads as concentrated readiness — strength held in clarity, neither tense nor at ease but focused.
Ornament & Detail
Murugan is adorned with detailed ornamentation — crown, layered jewellery at neck and arms, a defined waistband, and the geometric clarity of the vel itself. The peacock’s tail feathers are rendered in fine low relief, the eyes of the feathers picked out as small disks. The garments are interpreted in clean sculptural relief, falling in measured folds. The body is finished in Sandstone, a warm neutral with the presence of natural stone. The base is offered in five finishes — Sandstone, Brown, Black, Gray, and Olive Green — allowing the figure to sit in a range of registers from quiet to grounded.
Murugan & the Vel
The vel is essential to the iconography — symbol of divine power, piercing clarity, and the triumph of knowledge over ignorance. It is held vertically, an axis through the composition that lifts the eye from base to crown. The peacock at his side, his vahana, represents the disciplining of pride and ego — beauty and capability brought into service rather than display. Together the vel and the peacock define Murugan’s character: clarity that pierces, beauty that submits, strength held in alignment with wisdom rather than in opposition to it.
In the Home
This Murugan murti is at home on a puja shelf, console, home mandir, or entryway — particularly suited to spaces where focus, discipline, and clarity of purpose are invoked. It works well in an office, a study, a meditation corner, or near the threshold of a home as a protective and orienting presence. Its compact footprint and vertical form make it easy to place alongside books and other objects without crowding. The five base finishes allow it to sit in either a quietly contemporary register or a more grounded, traditional setting.
A companion form is available in the Ekadanta Ganesha murti — Murugan’s brother and a fitting pairing for those drawn to the wider Shiva–Parvati family of forms.
Also available in a richly detailed hand-painted edition for those seeking a more devotional and expressive presentation.
About Murugan
Murugan — also known as Kartikeya, Skanda, and Subramanya — is the god of war, wisdom, and victory, especially revered across South Indian traditions where he is honoured as a principal deity. He is the son of Shiva and Parvati, and brother to Ganesha. He is invoked for courage, focus, success in challenges, and clarity in the face of difficulty. He is honoured particularly during Thaipusam, Skanda Sashti, and the Tamil month of Aippasi. His presence speaks to strength held in service of wisdom — purpose without restlessness.
